Even though the Samuel Culbertson Mansion is opulent, life here is casual.  It's what's you'd expect at a house that was one of the birthplaces of the Derby Party. Whether in jeans or tuxedo, you are invited to come downstairs and "set a spell."  You might enjoy curling up in the drawing room with a good book or in good conversation.  From Spring through Fall, our courtyard garden is like a tranquil oasis in the center of the city.

bar6a-pool.jpg (85624 bytes)Afternoon refreshments, coffee or tea are served on request.  Let us know, and you'll be invited into our "Kentucky Rathskeller" to enjoy a couple of drinks at our bar (complimentary, of course), play some pool, or bubble away the stresses of modern life in our whirlpool spa.

We would like to welcome you into our world. Enjoy the surroundings of a 19th Century millionaire tycoon. Enjoy the charm of a home that nurtured the Two Little Knights of Kentucky.

The Morning Room

Two of the "parlors" in the Culbertson Mansion.  The drawing room was the main parlor of the house.  The morning room, across the great-hall, was where the Mrs. received her callers, in the morning, Fridays, between 9 and 11! In more formal times, Old Louisville had a strict protocol for such things.  Lately, we've dispensed with the protocol.

The Courtyard
The Courtyard, between the main house and carriage house, is one of our three garden areas.  Here you'll find tables and chairs where you can relax on a warm sunny day.  Just around the corner is our rose garden with it's display of over 100 varieties of roses.  A small shady garden on the north side of the house, completes the trio!
